Third grade just completed the process of clay cupcake making! It was quite a bit of fun as you can see below. Students used silicone cupcake molds to help form the bottom which I bought at Michael's (see picture at the bottom of this post). Two coils were rolled out and put together to make the icing. Cherries were optional. Students selected one color glaze for the bottom and one color for the icing (we used Mayco Stroke and Coat). Sprinkles were dabbed on at will in as many colors as desired.
I love how these can be used as a secret hiding place for small treasures!
The clever post that helped me through this process is: Art with Ms. Gram
Wilton silicone molds
These look wonderful!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ms. Gram!
DeleteSuper cute Laura!
ReplyDeleteI loved doing this project this year. What did you use to make the lines on the sides? Do your lids come off?
ReplyDeleteHi Rhiannon, we used Wilton silicone baking cups. I'm going to post a picture to this post so you can see what they look like. You could get two sets for your classroom over a few weeks time using the Michael's 40% off coupons :) That's what I did a few years back!!!
DeleteDid you let the clay dry in the silicon mold? If not, how did you get the clay out without it sticking to the sides?
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs. Sperk, we simply roll the cupcake mold off the clay after we press it in - we don't let the clay dry inside. It'll flip inside out as you lift it off. Let me know if that helps!
