1st grade Fish Weave

1st graders made these colorful woven fish over a three week period. Since they are fairly large (roughly 12x18), I decided that slow and steady would be the best approach. Week one, students selected the color for the fish and drew an oval as large as the paper to create the body. They added the face on one end plus some wiggly lines on the body. Week two, we reviewed weaving and students added at least 5 colored paper strips to the fish's body. Week three, fins and a tail were cut and glued to finish them. Our artwork was inspired by Mrs. Knight's Smartest Artists.
