3rd grade Found Faces

We were inspired by an artist named Nancy Wiedower (found via Pinterest) who uses found objects to assemble faces. All of my students were really psyched about this assignment and it was a lot of fun!
On the first day, I had them choose a simple shape for the face, a circle, square or rectangle and I prepared it for them since we were using a thin cardboard. Then off they went, diving into a myriad of found objects I had collected or that they had brought in. I revved up the glue gun for anything that seemed heavy duty. Everything else was glued down with Elmer's Glue All.

During the next two class sessions, students used acrylic paints to complete the found faces. I glued each face to a piece of scrap wood in order for them to stand on their own.
There were many amazing sculptures built and I only wish I had the time and patience to have taken more pictures!
